BREAKING: Border Patrol Shooting in Arizona Leaves One Critical—and Raises Fresh Questions
Another person is fighting for their life after a Border Patrol-involved shooting in Arizona, with authorities offering few answers and a familiar promise of an investigation.
One person was shot Tuesday morning in southern Pima County during an incident involving U.S. Border Patrol, according to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department. The individual—unnamed and now in custody—was transported in critical condition after the shooting near milepost 15 on West Arivaca Road around 7:30 a.m.
The Santa Rita Fire District said emergency crews and American Medical Response treated the person at the scene before escalating care. “Patient care was transferred to a local medical helicopter for rapid transport to a regional trauma center,” the department said. “The incident remains under active investigation by law enforcement agencies.”
What led to the shooting remains unclear, and there’s no indication any officers were injured. The Department of Homeland Security did not immediately respond to requests for comment—an absence that’s becoming its own pattern as scrutiny mounts.
The timing is impossible to ignore. The Arizona shooting comes days after a fatal Border Patrol shooting in Minneapolis and weeks after an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer killed Renee Good—cases that have sparked protests and renewed criticism of DHS leadership. Since September, federal immigration officers have shot 12 people as deportation operations ramped up nationwide.
