CBS insists the episode was held because the team “needed additional reporting,” but inside the newsroom the explanation sounded different. Alfonsi, whose story had already cleared five internal reviews, wrote in a staff letter that the decision was “not an editorial one, it is a political one.” Add in the recent Skydance takeover—led by David Ellison, whose family’s political loyalties are no secret—and the arrival of editor-in-chief Bari Weiss, and suddenly the “needs more context” excuse rings pretty hollow.

The real kicker? Global accidentally airing a politically radioactive U.S. news segment is the most Canadian scandal imaginable: polite, brief, and quickly taken down—but not before the internet immortalized it.
