BREAKING: Trump Taps Markwayne Mullin for DHS, Moves Kristi Noem to New ‘Shield of the Americas’ Post
Good news, bad news, and worser news!
President Donald Trump announced that Sen. Markwayne Mullin will take over as Secretary of Homeland Security on March 31, 2026, while Kristi Noem shifts to a new Western Hemisphere security role.
It’s a Cabinet shakeup that keeps immigration and border politics front and center heading into 2026.
Trump said the “Highly Respected United States Senator from the Great State of Oklahoma” will replace Noem at DHS, praising her “numerous and spectacular results (especially on the Border!)” as she transitions to Special Envoy for “The Shield of the Americas,” a new security initiative set to be unveiled in Doral, Florida.
Mullin, who served 10 years in the House and three in the Senate, was hailed by Trump as “A MAGA Warrior, and former undefeated professional MMA fighter,” adding that “Markwayne will work tirelessly to Keep our Border Secure, Stop Migrant Crime, Murderers, and other Criminals from illegally entering our Country, End the Scourge of Illegal Drugs and, MAKE AMERICA SAFE AGAIN.”
Trump also underscored Mullin’s background as “the only Native American in the Senate,” calling him “a fantastic advocate for our incredible Tribal Communities,” and pointed to his sweep of all 77 Oklahoma counties in three consecutive presidential elections as a sign of deep political alignment.
The move keeps DHS squarely focused on border enforcement, migrant crime, and drug trafficking—issues that have defined Trump’s policy pitch. Noem, meanwhile, gets a newly minted title with a hemispheric mission that sounds expansive and, at least for now, light on specifics.
