“I picked up my ringing phone as I drove past an officer while driving my wife’s car in Georgetown,” Baier admitted on X. “He pointed to have me pull over—I did. He was very professional. I had to dig for the registration card. Got a ticket and left. I didn’t know there was paparazzi.”

The timing was deliciously awkward. Just hours before his distracted-driving bust, Baier had been riding Air Force One with Trump to Alaska, interviewing the president, and even teeing off with him at Trump’s Virginia golf course. The next day, instead of playing journalist-in-chief, he was fumbling around for registration papers while an officer stood over his wife’s luxury SUV.

Trump’s DC crackdown—complete with National Guard deployments and federalized police—has already been touted as a success, with carjackings down 83% and robberies nearly halved. But Baier’s ticket proves the campaign’s real flex: Making examples out of everyone, even Fox News’ top political face.

Imagine going from golfing with the president one day to getting ticketed in Georgetown the next. That’s one hell of a handicap adjustment.
