Day Four of the Democratic National Convention

Kamala Harris is a STAR. So much to say in this post. Let’s just get down to business.

Harris gave the best acceptance speech I’ve ever experienced. Yes, better than Obama’s.

Which reminds me: Lawrence O’Donnell told a story yesterday on MSNBC about when he first met Harris. The person who introduced them said that she was the “female Obama.”

Last night, she was. But I don’t mean to demean her—she is her own person. Authentic. Vulnerable. Strong. Courageous. Harris is overflowing with joy, charisma, and compassion.

And damn can she talk!

She covered it all: Her upbringing and how it formed her to be the person she is today. She talked about her family’s challenges, from moving multiple times as her parents went where their jobs took them, to stories on the playground where her father would tell her, “Run, Kamala, run!” to her first days in the job as a new DA in the SF Bay Area.

She took down Trump about as far as a person could. (To be fair, it isn’t hard—he’s pretty much given himself multiple near-fatal blows.)

And she offered hope and promise of what’s to come.

It was a unifying speech—unless, of course, you belong to the Trump Cult.

I loved Adam Kinzinger’s speech. Harris’ little sister, Maya, told great stories about their youth. There were a whole host of people who gave great, uplifting speeches.

I haven’t felt this good about being an American since I was a 14-year old boy and Reagan had just become president.

And I have to tell you—it’s a lot harder to make me feel this way now (versus then).
