The irony of The Apprentice is that it sold millions of Americans on a fantasy: that Trump was a ruthless but competent executive who could bring his so-called business brilliance to Washington.
It’s not surprising that many voters believed he would "run the country like a business." Unfortunately for them, he ran the federal government like a Trump business, nearly running the economy into the abyss.
The business model he preferred was one of personal enrichment, short-term media wins, and a complete disregard for consequences—whether financial, legal, or otherwise.
Trump’s real talent wasn’t in making hard choices or running companies; it was in branding himself as the guy who did. And for over a decade, NBC helped him sell that illusion to millions of Americans.
So, was Trump really the boss America thought he was?
Only if you ignore the bankruptcies, the lawsuits, the unpaid contractors, and the fact that in the real world, the only job he’s ever truly been fired from was the presidency.
