Trump Takes His America First Message Overseas

America just celebrated its 250th birthday, but the political fireworks are far from over. In today’s Morning Sixpack Podcast, we’ll look at President Trump’s latest moves at home and abroad, a Supreme Court decision that could reshape the 2026 elections, Iran’s emotional farewell to its longtime supreme leader, and the quiet end of one of Washington’s most talked-about government experiments.

President Trump heads into this week’s NATO summit with European leaders hoping to avoid another public showdown. After years of demanding allies spend more on defense, Trump arrives in Turkey with NATO officials eager to prove they’ve listened. Billions in new military commitments are on the table, but everyone knows one unpredictable moment could dominate the headlines.

The White House stepped into the World Cup after a controversial red card sidelined Team USA striker Folarin Balogun. According to reports, Trump personally lobbied FIFA leadership to overturn the suspension, allowing Balogun back onto the field. The move thrilled American fans but sparked outrage overseas, where critics questioned whether politics had crossed onto the soccer pitch.

The Supreme Court may have changed the balance of power in this year’s Senate elections. By removing limits on coordinated spending between candidates and national political parties, Republicans now have a new way to offset Democrats’ fundraising advantage. Campaign money has always mattered, but this ruling could make party committees far more influential than ever before.

Iran buried Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei with massive crowds and familiar chants against America and Israel. Tens of thousands packed Tehran’s streets, calling for revenge after Khamenei’s death during last month’s conflict. While the funeral marked the end of one era, the rhetoric suggested the regime’s hostility toward the West remains very much alive.

The Department of Government Efficiency has officially reached the end of the road—without a final report. The Trump administration says it has no plans to issue a complete accounting of DOGE’s accomplishments despite overseeing massive federal workforce reductions and claiming billions in savings. One of the administration’s most ambitious projects is ending with as many questions as answers.
