Two police officers were injured, and authorities recovered a firearm from the scene.
This demonstration followed President Donald Trump’s unprecedented deployment of the National Guard to Los Angeles without the California governor’s consent, inflaming protests in both cities. While Los Angeles saw 42 arrests amid chaotic scenes, San Francisco’s crackdown reflected the deepening divide over immigration enforcement tactics.
San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie condemned the violence, stressing that targeting immigrant communities “makes our city less safe.” Meanwhile, Supervisor Jackie Fielder criticized the harsh police response, highlighting the historical significance of Trump’s National Guard deployment and questioning its impact on free speech and protest rights.
A new protest is planned Monday evening at San Francisco’s 24th Street Mission BART plaza, as the city remains on edge over immigration enforcement and civil unrest.
