Bill, I saw an interesting report s few weeks ago about how Putin’s rattling the nuclear sword is just a giant bluff because Putin is probably more afraid of his nuclear weapons than we are! Here’s why: the US spends multiple tens of millions of dollars every year maintaining our nukes. Russia doesn’t! It’s been several decades since Russia has maintained their nukes! So it’s as likely they’d blow up on the launch pad as blow up on target in Ukraine.
I wish I could find that podcast as it was very detailed insider in term of the maintenance procedures & the costs involved. The Russians can’t pay for maintenance because they allow their oligarchs to steal instead. It’s like how they have a massive tank inventory on paper but when it came time to use them they really had to scramble to repair tanks so they could be sent to the front lines! Except, the deferred maintenance on a nuke isn’t simple or fast.
