The Justice Department alerted President Trump back in May that his name appeared multiple times in Jeffrey Epstein’s extensive documents, according to senior officials.
But this mention, officials stressed, wasn’t evidence of wrongdoing—just part of a “truckload” of files naming hundreds of individuals who had socialized with Epstein. Attorney General Pam Bondi informed Trump in a White House briefing, alongside the news that no more Epstein documents would be released due to the presence of child pornography and the need to protect victims’ privacy.
“This is another fake news story, just like the previous story by The Wall Street Journal,” White House communications director Steven Cheung said, dismissing media reports on the files.

Despite Trump’s name cropping up, the Justice Department concluded there was nothing warranting further investigation or prosecution, and the FBI’s thorough review confirmed that stance. Still, the decision to withhold more files has triggered sharp backlash among Trump’s political base, with some seeing it as a betrayal.
In the meantime, the DOJ is pursuing a meeting with Ghislaine Maxwell to explore additional leads, while Trump has publicly pushed for releasing grand jury testimony, though court secrecy rules make that unlikely.
