The Middle East is heating up, Washington is fighting over elections and the Justice Department is back in the spotlight. Here are the six stories driving today’s headlines.

President Trump is threatening to bomb Iran’s bridges and power plants unless Tehran returns to negotiations. The warning comes as U.S. and Iranian forces continue exchanging strikes, with the White House raising the pressure through military action, economic measures and increasingly aggressive rhetoric. The conflict is also disrupting global shipping and driving oil prices higher.

ICE has acknowledged it possesses more than 127,000 records tied to possible election-related deployments. After initially saying no responsive records existed, the agency now faces growing pressure to release documents as questions swirl over whether federal immigration agents could be deployed near polling places before the midterms.

President Trump is preparing to deliver a primetime speech focused on election security. The address could include intelligence concerning China’s activities during the 2020 election, even as administration officials reportedly debate whether releasing the information would clarify—or complicate—the public conversation ahead of November. tl;dr Trump is still bitching about the election he lost.

Sen. John Fetterman says support for Israel is a line he won’t cross. While insisting he has no plans to leave the Democratic Party, the Pennsylvania Democrat warned he would walk away if Democrats officially became an anti-Israel party, exposing deeper divisions within the party. tl;dr Fetterman’s “moral line” is giving Israel BILLIONS to murder Palestinians.

The Trump administration is imposing a new 25% tariff on selected Brazilian imports. Brazil is promising retaliation and plans to challenge the move through the World Trade Organization, setting the stage for another international trade fight.

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche faced a bipartisan grilling during his confirmation hearing. Senators pressed him over his ties to President Trump, the abandoned anti-weaponization fund and the Justice Department’s handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files as his nomination to become attorney general remains under scrutiny.

Thanks for joining us for another Morning Sixpack. We’ll keep sorting through the headlines so you can start your day informed—and maybe just a little less surprised by what Washington comes up with next.
